‘The Challenge: War of the Worlds’ power rankings after ep. 7

A few months after the shocking Final Reckoning finale, MTV’s competition show The Challenge is back with another season: War of the Worlds, which gives America’s fifth major sport (yeah, that’s right, we dare you to disagree) a global twist as competitors from various reality shows pair with seasoned Challenge veterans for a shot at $1 million.

As we did last season, we’ve tasked resident Challenge expert Charles Curtis with power ranking the teams based on what went down in the latest episode.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!

This week: The British alliance keeps winning as the American contingent (plus Kyle!) continue to pick each other off instead of uniting.

1. DEE AND WES

This hold on the top spot has started to look shaky. It’s not because of performance — they made it to the Tribunal once again — but because of numbers. I still think they’re a lock to make it to a final from an athletic perspective, but if there’s a Brit-heavy Tribunal in the future, they’re in trouble.

2. NATALIE D. AND PAULIE

It’s the same thing as Dee and Wes — the performance is a positive even if they didn’t make it to the Tribunal, but they have too many enemies.

3. BEAR AND DA’VONNE

What a comeback. They were all but done in previous weeks of the power rankings, and now Bear has his British friends focused and with eyes on the prize. It’s horrible for Da’Vonne, who’s being dragged into this with no control whatsoever. But then again, Bear might manipulate them all the way to a final.

4. ASHLEY C. AND KAM

Ashley and Josh nearly came to blows when the latter defended his partner Amanda, and this is where I have to give Josh a shoutout for getting past the conflicts he had with Amanda and came to her defense.

Now, Ashley and Kam are safe for another week due to their Killing Floor win and the Relic. They’re also fully locked in with the Brits. Look out.

5. THEO AND CARA MARIA

They fell in the Eye in the Sky challenge — a really good one, Challenge challenge makers — but I’m still confident they’re fine.

6. GEORGIA AND HUNTER

They finished in this week’s tough challenge and Georgia and Bear are still a thing (for now).

7. TURBO AND NANY

Now we get to the American-associated groups. These two are still strong enough to win some challenges. Also let’s note there was some Nany and Hunter canoodling.

8. GUS AND JENNA

I’ll move them up from last because they made it the Tribunal, but I’m wondering if Jenna made a mistake voting in Amanda and Josh instead of Cara Maria and Theo. Amanda made a really good case when Nany brought her and Jenna together to chat.

9. MATTIE AND KYLE

The only reason they’re here is because they’re on the American side, but two of that alliance’s teams — Cara Maria’s pair and Paulie and Ninja Natalie — want Kyle out. They’re going to have to win a lot to stay in the game.
